Any goal you have no matter what it is will be affected by:

1. Your taking total responsibility and

2. Your decision to do something outside your normal comfort zone to reach it.

Fitness fits in to this just as well as any other goal.

If his response to climbing the mountain were, "I'll never amount to anything," then he would not be celebrating.

Let’s begin with number one.  It is not your parents, your boss, the economy, the politicians, your spouse, the holidays, etc. who are to blame for the fact that you are “stuck”.  Take responsibility so that you can change your response to the events around you and realize a more successful outcome.  Maybe you need a new job, a frank discussion with your spouse, a positive attitude toward weight loss, take your head out of politics, to stop blaming the holidays or do whatever it is to get you focused on being the best you can be.

Number two is simple but not always easy. You’re not progressing if you’re staying within the confines of your comfort zone.  Just like the elephant, who is trained at a young age to stay attached to the rope, he never realizes his mammoth strength because it takes him out of his normal zone of operation.  To be fit, you have to crank out some seriously hard exercises, you have to eat properly to lose body fat and you have to think and breathe success.  You have to engage in positive thinking and always keep your eyes on the prize.  Getting stagnant in your historical negative thoughts will always work against your “will power” because your thoughts are your will power.  Remember your brain will find a way to help you if you just reverse your expectations, think success in clear concise detail (“I am 30 pounds lighter by March 31, 2011 and enjoying every moment, feeling more confident and so proud that I can finally fit into my size 6 jeans!”)
