I’d like to share with you an interview regarding a topic of passionate interest to me: raw milk versus pasteurized. What we have access to in our stores is pasteurized only. If you’re lucky, you might see some raw cheese. Nature’s Bin in Lakewood carries it. Good luck finding it at those bigger grocery chains, however.

You see, Ohio has clamped down on our choices (another reason why I am not a fan of the Ohio Department of Agriculture - see my 12/20/08 post to learn more).

Do you know about the health benefits of raw milk? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a choice? You can choose to buy alcohol and tobacco, and we all know that those items are not healthy (am I’m not advocating that those get stripped from the shelves). However, we have to search high and low to find raw dairy, which incidentally is perfectly legal to sell, but not to drink.  -What? (More on that topic later.)

Last Saturday I had the distinctive pleasure of driving to “Amish Country” about an hour and a half south of Cleveland. I went to attend a conference about raw milk. There were farmers, consumers and other curious minds in attendance.

Anyway, aside from being a great way to spend a gorgeous spring day, I met a dairy farmer, Tim Wightman of Yore Farms in Arcana, Ohio, who happened to present later that day on raw milk production methods to maximize nutrients as well as some of the economics involved.

I’ll soon be posting some articles on this natural healing food and how you can access it in your area.

In the meantime, watch Part of 1 of My Interview with Tim Wightman and tell me your thoughts. Oh yeah, you’ll want to check back for Part 2. You’ll learn some amazing facts on raw milk!

    Small farmers are awesome.

This is a really excellent and informative interview. I appreciate the fact that you have taken the time and made the effort to not only find out what is available to people, but you’ve also shared the truth and challenges for both farmers and consumers.

This interview sheds a bright light on an area of nutrition that scares people. I had no idea how herd sharing works or the complications and legal ramifications that make raw foods accessible.

Raw foods are necessary and not scary, bad information, wrong information, and misinformation is scary! Kudos and thank you for sharing.
