So, yesterday, pretty much all schools throughout Greater Cleveland were closed.  We seriously got dumped on.  It was beautiful and the mounds of snow provided a great chance to enjoy some winter outdoor activity!  After putting on everyone’s snowsuits, boots and other gear, we could hardly wait to get outside and just goof around.  My kids are all pretty little (ages 6, 4 and 2), so getting them to perform specific games doesn’t always work.  But they were outside, active and enjoying themselves.  What more could I want?

Take a look at this video.  I hope it inspires you to utilize those days off for fun physical fitness.  Oh yeah, and while they played, I was able to get a great snow shoveling workout in.  I love winter!

I was so excited to do some video of my kids having fun while moving! Because my daughter turns 6 tomorrow, it’s most appropriate that I break out exercises for kids in her age group (based on the very sound principles of the International Youth Conditioning Association).

In this video, you will see a few easy ways to get kids interested in moving and becoming more aware of their bodies.  These sample warm-ups are perfect before engaging kids in physical games. (Yes, I’ll show you some examples of those, too.)

Enjoy the fun and try these with your kids.  And don’t forget that you can download FREE reports on the “Top 5 Exercises for Kids 1-1/2 to 5″ and “Top 5 Exercises for Moms & Dads” (see the upper right corner of this site).

Here’s to fit families all across the world!

Cheap entertainment is one of my fortes. It’s enough of a hassle getting everyone’s shoes collected, put on, winter coats gathered, zipped, hats “Oh, where’s that darn hat?” and, “Oh, no! You took your shoe off!” Well, you get the picture. Trust me, I like to get out; however, when you combine winter gear with kids (especially small ones) and that time vortex in which kids dwell -well, half of your day is gone and some good chump change as well. Okay, add a little sanity as well.

So why not combine FREE with TIME-SAVING and FUN and get “INDOOR FAMILY EXERCISE!” Now, I realize you all don’t have an indoor exercise studio, but you don’t need one. Just give yourself ample space to jump, roll around and be silly. What is more, you will not feel guilty for spending your hard-earned cash on worthless fast-food just to appease your low-blood-sugar fiends -er, friends - because this can be done at home where you keep your larder stocked with whole fresh food. Right?

Without further ado, take a look at this video of my two youngest having a ball with some wholesome cheap thrills. ;)

    Hi, folks-

Did you know that kids under age two should not be exposed to television?  Well, it’s true.  Proudly, my hometown newspaper, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, has explained this in an article written on 12/30/08.  I’d like you to reconsider using TV for your very little children and, instead, spend time with them until they’ve passed age two and you can allow some television in their lives (we all need a respite, so I won’t fault you there).  But do keep in mind that as a country, the average person clocks in 4 hours or more of television EACH WEEK, which calculates to 9 SOLID YEARS of viewing over a lifetime.

Is it any wonder why our country is, ahem, “big boned?”  Let’s get active with our kids, encourage movement and healthy eating (why not let your little ones help you prepare healthy foods?) and don’t forget a good dose of reading.

Download my FREE e-books right now (look on the upper right) and get your family on the path to fitness.  Drop me a line and let me know your thoughts.

Mom always told you not to skip breakfast (if she didn’t, then that’s why I’m here, right?). In your drive to keep yourself and your family in tip-top shape (and resolved to improve yourselves into even tip-toppier shape), I am giving you my favorite recipe in the whole world!  I eat this way just about every morning.  If I don’t have this super delicious, muscle-building item, then I’ll have a smoothie.  I’ll give you that recipe, too, but I want you to try this first.

So, start 2009 out right, with a healthy, protein-packed dish. Use it for any and every morning. Enjoy its simplicity, its ease, its muscle-boosting nutrition. Will the kids like it?  Probably not, if they’re like mine (so give them some of that chocolate oatmeal that I wrote about a couple weeks ago (look for the 12/13/08 “Stinky Oat” blog post).
